Writers Strike

December 13, 2007

Don’t worry the writers strike hasn’t affected the Atomsplit cartoon.  Some of you may be asking yourselves what does writing have to do with a cartoon anyway. So I’m going to let you in on several secrets today. Secret number one, all good visual media has a certain amount of writing involved in it. Movies, cartoons, comic books, video games, TV shows, you name it, they all have writers to write plots and scripts.  Writing is vitally important because the actors, special effects artists, makeup artists, set designers, directors, illustrators, animators, voice actors, or any one else involved all need to know what to do, and so it should be written down. It’s usually in the form of a script. The script always needs to be adjusted and the writer should always be there to make adjustments as needed. Luckily Doug and I are both co authors of the script for the Atomsplit cartoon and are always there to tweak it if we need to. We’ll probably be tweaking until the day before release with the voice actors in the studio.  Secret number two, all the stories that have been written or ever will be written can be broken down into three different plots which are metamorphosis, quest, and slice of life. A good writer is really like a chef.  A chef will take a cut of beef and add lots of spice and garnish to it, so that even though in reality your just eating a piece of meat it will taste like a unique and finely prepared steak. A writer will take a basic plot and add their own kind of spices and twists crafting a new and interesting spin on a old basic plot.  So, you may be wondering what type of story Atomsplit is, and that is secret number 3, a quest story. However, I can assure you that Atomsplit is not simply a quest story because Doug and I are good writers and we spent a lot of time in the beginning adding spices and twists for a very special quest story for you guys to enjoy.
